Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Interlaken

Arrive in Interlaken, the "city between two lakes," nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. The most convenient international gateway is Zurich Airport, followed by a scenic 2.5-hour train ride through the Swiss countryside. After checking into your hotel for the next two nights, take time to explore Interlaken's charming streets, scenic promenades, and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Harder Kulm – The Top of Interlaken

Kick off your alpine adventure with a hike to Harder Kulm, the nearest mountain to Interlaken. Rising 1,322 meters (4,335 ft) above sea level, this iconic viewpoint offers breathtaking vistas of Interlaken, as well as the legendary peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Take a stroll on the Zwei-Seen-Steg (Two Lakes Bridge), a platform suspended over the edge, for spectacular views of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. This rewarding hike is the perfect introduction to the Bernese Alps, combining panoramic views with a moderate challenge. Return to Interlaken for a well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Bachalpsee from Grindelwald-First

Start your day with a scenic train ride to Grindelwald, a charming alpine village nestled in a lush valley and framed by towering peaks, including the iconic Eiger North Wall (3,967 m/13,015 ft) and Wetterhorn (3,690 m/12,100 ft). From here, embark on a stunning hike to Bachalpsee, a serene alpine lake surrounded by wildflower meadows and jagged mountain peaks like the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, and Finsteraarhorn.

The descent offers adventure options: take the gondola to Grindelwald or add a thrill by riding down via a mountain cart (not included). From Grindelwald, you can travel to your next accommodation in Wengen, Mürren, or Grindelwald via train through the Kleine Scheidegg Pass or the aerial cableway via Männlichen.

Day 4: Männlichen to Wengen

Embark on a breathtaking hike along one of the Bernese Oberland's most iconic routes. From Männlichen, the trail winds through spectacular alpine scenery, with uninterrupted views of the legendary peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

The trail descends into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, known for its cascading waterfalls and dramatic cliffs. For a shorter day, take advantage of the train at Kleine Scheidegg to reduce the distance. This unforgettable hike culminates in Wengen, where you'll settle into your accommodation for the evening.

Day 5: The Eiger Trail (Optional Ascent to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe)

Start your day with a train ride to Alpiglen via Kleine Scheidegg and embark on the renowned Eiger Trail, a spectacular hike along the base of the dramatic Eiger North Face. This iconic trail offers close-up views of the towering cliffs and glaciers, immersing you in one of the most memorable landscapes of the Bernese Alps.

Upon reaching Eigergletscher Station, you have the option to continue your adventure with a train ride to the Jungfraujoch – The Top of Europe, the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 meters (11,332 ft). Marvel at the panoramic views of snow-covered peaks and explore the ice palace and viewing platforms. (Note: The Jungfraujoch train ride is not included in the trip price; the supplement is payable on-site with the Jungfrau Pass.)

After your visit, return to Kleine Scheidegg and take a scenic train ride to Lauterbrunnen, followed by a journey to Mürren, your base for the next two nights.

Day 6: The North Face Trail from Mürren – End of the Trip

Pass by alpine pastures where cows graze to the sound of their melodic bells, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.

As you hike, enjoy uninterrupted views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, along with sweeping panoramas of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. For an added highlight, take a short detour to visit Sprutz Waterfall, a unique cascade that you can walk behind. This peaceful and scenic hike is the perfect way to wrap up your journey through the Bernese Oberland.

After the hike, your trip comes to an end in Mürren. Additional hiking options and extensions are available in the roadbook for those looking to explore further.

The Oberland region is highly sought after, and the hotels mentioned above have limited capacity. Once you reserve your tour, we will adapt the accommodations to the season and availability. Rest assured, any alternative hotels offered will meet the same quality standards as those listed here.

  • Dinners and Lunches: These are not included in the package but can be arranged through your accommodations. Most hotels offer the option to prepare meals for your hikes or provide dinner upon request.

Baggage Transfers

  • Convenient Transport Service: Our taxi partner will handle your luggage transfers between accommodations. Simply leave your bag at the reception desk in the morning, and it will be waiting for you at your next hotel by the time you complete your hike.
  • Additional Cost: This service is available for an extra fee.

Trails and Trail Markings

  • Self-Guided Navigation: On self-guided trips, you are responsible for reading maps and using a compass. To assist you, we provide a comprehensive roadbook and access to the Mont Roadbook app, which contains detailed information about the trails.
  • Up-to-Date Trail Conditions: Always check the latest trail information with the accommodation managers before setting out for the day.

By Plane

The nearest airports are Bern, Zurich, Geneva, and Basel-Mulhouse. From these airports, you can reach Interlaken via public transport or a rental car. Frankfurt Airport also offers train connections to Interlaken.

By Train

Switzerland’s public transport system is renowned for its punctuality, safety, and frequency. Interlaken is well-connected to major Swiss cities, with trains departing at least every hour.

  • From Zurich Airport, there is a direct train connection to Interlaken Ost, offering a scenic and relaxing 2-hour journey.

By Car

Interlaken is clearly signposted on the autobahns, making it easy to find by car. Parking is available in Interlaken, and payments can be conveniently made using the Sepp app.
