Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Carioca Lifestyle and Bohemian Santa Teresa

Full day Vida Carioca and Santa Teresa with lunchtime – 8 hours

On this tour, we explore the vibrant lifestyle of the cariocas. The journey begins with a walk to the nearest subway station, where we’ll ride for 15 minutes. Upon arrival, we will walk through the historic and commercial center of Rio, stopping at landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral of São Sebastião and the Saara neighborhood. This will be a great opportunity to experience the unique culture, commerce, and infectious joy of the Carioca people. A refreshing stop for tropical fruit juice will also be included.

Next, we will head to Santa Teresa, a trendy neighborhood perched in the hills, offering panoramic views of the city. Here, we’ll stroll through charming cobbled streets, visiting beautiful mansions, iconic yellow trams, the Selarón Steps, and vibrant urban art murals. The Christ the Redeemer statue will also serve as a stunning backdrop.

Santa Teresa’s past and present are beautifully woven together, with stories of luxury and artistic bohemian life dating back to the 1960s. We will also visit Parque das Ruinas, the remains of an old mansion abandoned over 50 years ago, which now functions as a cultural center. As we explore the ruins, we’ll get a glimpse of the splendor of Brazil’s Belle Époque era while taking in sweeping views of Rio de Janeiro.

We’ll drive to the base of Corcovado Peak and board the train that will take us through the lush Tijuca Forest to the top. Corcovado stands at 710 meters high, and the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue at its summit is 38 meters tall, making it one of the most famous landmarks in the world and one of the New Seven Wonders. From the peak, we'll be treated to stunning panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro.

After taking in the breathtaking views, we’ll take the train back down and continue with a scenic drive along Rio’s South beaches, before returning to the hotel.

Next, we’ll head to Praia Vermelha in the Urca neighborhood, where the cable car station to Sugarloaf is located. From the base, we’ll embark on the 1.25 km Claudio Coutinho trail (also known as the Caminho Bem Te Vi trail) through the forest, leading to the top of the first peak – Morro da Urca.
